Mega volume lashes are very similar to the traditional volume lashes we know. The difference between mega volume and traditional volume is how many lash extensions are being used to create the fan and the diameter of the extensions in the fan. A set of traditional volume lashes uses .07 extensions to create a fan with up to 5 lash
extensions. Mega volume sets use .05 and .03 lash extensions to create a fan with up to 16 lash extensions. With mega volume, you can apply up to 16 extensions on one natural lash. That is MEGA for sure.

Being Mega Safe

Just like classic and traditional volume lashes, mega volume lashes are safe for natural lashes if the extensions are applied correctly. Do you know what is considered a properly applied set of lashes?

Isolate

First, and most importantly, proper isolation is a must. It’s a non-negotiable part of any set of lash extensions. If lashes aren’t properly isolated, the extensions and natural lashes will all stick together. This will cause pain for your lash client and also ruin their natural lashes. Oh, and it won’t look good! Without proper isolation, you will have a difficult time retaining lash clientele. Who wants to get their lashes done by someone who causes them pain? The saying “beauty is pain” shouldn’t apply to this one.

Adhesive

Also, for a proper set of lashes (classic, traditional volume, or mega volume) you need to use the correct amount of lash adhesive. Lash adhesive adds weight, so if you use too much not only will the extensions and natural lashes all stick together, but you will be adding excessive weight. Additional weight can cause natural lash breakage and poor retention. Nope, we don’t want that.

Weight

Lastly, a fan of extensions shouldn’t be too heavy. The weight of the fan is important for long lasting lashes, avoiding breaking the natural lash, and to avoid the lash extension from drooping. Mega volume lashes are no different! But, mega volume does take a little more calculation on your end to figure out the weight.

Don’t worry I’m not talking calculus, just basic math. To do this basic lash math, you just need to know the lash weight of each diameter you are using to create the fan. By knowing that, you will know how many extensions you can put into your fans to keep your client’s natural lashes healthy and strong.

Symmetry and Balance

Was learning the volume lash technique challenging for you? I remember learning volume and how frustrating it was. Your hands are used to doing it one way, and now you have to adjust. A majority of volume lash artist’s use .07 lash extensions and that diameter is awesome. It gives you that dark lash line with fluff. When doing Mega volume lashes, you have to use even thinner lash extensions: .05 and .03.

There are some adjustments you’ll have to make to be able to pick up these ultra-thin lashes and create a perfectly symmetrical fan, but you’ll get it!

Symmetrical fans are important in traditional volume lashing, as you know, and even MORE important in mega volume. Creating a fan where the extensions are equally spaced will not only give you a beautiful look, but it will also create a weight balance. A weight balance will give your clients great retention and keep their natural lashes healthy and strong. Weight balance will also give them a beautiful set of lash extensions. Who doesn’t want that?
